League Rules & Guidelines

Millennium Racing Online (MROL) is a simulated online auto racing league using "NASCAR Racing 2003 Season"(NR2003) by Papyrus. MROL is a fixed setup racing league. Our purpose is to create a clean and competitive racing environment that is as free of accidents as possible.
We welcome any and all drivers who are interested in contributing to such an environment.

All new drivers "must" start in our Truck and/or GNS Series. Some exceptions may be granted through the League Commissioner based on the drivers past experience.

MROL is solely dependent on it's member's monthly donations. We require that all drivers donate $5 per month to our league fund. If you would like, you can pay for an entire year for $50. Each new member is allowed to compete in THREE series events before being required to make monthly donations. The events are used by management to determine the safety and courtesy of new drivers. Management informs probationary drivers upon granting full membership.

League Rules
It is the responsibility of each driver to read, know and follow all of the League Rules. No excuses will be honored from drivers claiming ignorance of a given rule.

Forum
ALL members are required to join our Forum. The majority of league communication is done through the message board. It allows our members to keep up with what is going on in the league and provide invaluable feedback to management.

Please see League Schedule link in left menu and the corresponding Forum area for up-to-date details.

Fixed Setups
Millennium Racing Online is a "fixed setup" Simulated Racing League. We use setups that are "tweaked" by league drivers, in each of our series. Generally, these tweaks are minor and meant to mitigate caution flags caused by setups being "too loose". Please go to our "Tracks & Setups" link in the left menu and download the appropriate setup for each series and track.

How to Join

  • To apply, fill out our "League Signup Form", in the menu to the left, and register on our Forums. Upon approval, drivers will be contacted by the League Commissioner and provided additional information.
  • Enjoying racing in MROL partially depends on your ability to have a good connection to our servers. We do not accept any new drivers with a dial-up or satellite internet connections to ensure the best possible online racing for our members.
Car/Truck Files
  • When you are assigned a car number it will be used across all Series (After you are granted Full Membership).
  • The number "3" has been retired in MROL. Please do not ask to use this number.
  • Do NOT upload cars until you receive confirmation of acceptance as a Full Member. For uploading and downloading instructions see our Car File Forum.

Recognition Program

  • Trophies will be based on the financials at the end of a series season.
  • Trophies are given to drivers in recognition of their performance.
  • The top three finishers in each series will receive a Trophy
  • The Rookie-of-the-Year will receive a trophy/plaque. ROY is determined in combination with a points and voting system.
  • The driver with the most combined starts in our series will receive the Iron Man Trophy. In the event two drivers have the same number of starts, the driver with the most points will get the trophy/plaque.

Cup Series Requirements

  • To compete in our Cup Series requires that each driver earn and maintain the right to do so.
  • This series should, and will be for the best drivers of our league. If you are applying for our Cup Series, you most likely will have to compete in the other series before you will be allowed to compete in our Cup Series. There is not a "set" number of races that you will have to compete in to determine if you are eligible to compete in our Cup Series. We will let you know when you are eligible. The final decision to allow a driver to compete in this series will be decided by the Commissioner and the Cup Series Administrators.
  • To be eligible you do not need to be the fastest driver. We will be looking at the following:
1: You must be a safe driver.
2: You must be a courteous driver.
3: You must exercise patience at all times.
4: You must be able to drive side-by-side with other drivers.
5: If you are the type of driver that likes to hold up drivers that are a lot faster, and by this......we are talking about early in races when it does not matter......then you will need to work on this. This is a subject of great debate, but all we are asking is that you use common sense and be respectful to your fellow drivers. Basically.........knowing when to
race.....or not race is a quality that we are looking for in a driver.
  • If you are a driver that regularly brings out cautions.....either from self-spins, or just making on-track mistakes frequently, then you will need to work hard if you want to compete in this series.

NR2003 Rules

  • NR2003 does an excellent job of incorporating the rules of racing that govern NASCAR. They are included in the N2003 game manual and you should take the time to learn them if you have not already done so. N2003 will black flag or penalize you if you violate the rules of the game. This includes improper pitting, merging, pace lap and caution flag procedures.
  • Although N2003 may issue a penalty that you think is unfair, this should not prevent you from continuing to race. The in-game issued penalties may be reviewed by the series administrator after the race, if the validity is in question. You should be able to provide a replay of the disputed penalty.

Chat/Autochat

  • We encourage you to personalize your autochat messages in N2003 so that others can identify your messages. For example, John Smith would change the default line of, "Pitting, Pass High", to, "John Smith Pitting, Pass High". There is no need to include your car #. Please keep your autochat short, as long messages can be distracting to drivers who are concentrating on racing or maintaining position during pace laps. Other than auto chat messages, chat should be kept to a minimum during races.
  • No flaming will be tolerated under any circumstances! This includes races, practices and the league message board. If another driver flames you, you may be required to submit proof by having a screen shot, chat log, e-mail or by having an Admin present when the comments occurred. Any derogatory comments made about any driver, even if that driver is not present may lead to disciplinary actions, up to and including expulsion from the league.

Starts/Restarts

  • All drivers during pace and yellow flag laps will maintain a gap of 0.5 sec interval between you and the car in front of you. It is mandatory to stagger your car/truck during pace laps. In other words, if the car/truck in front of you is positioned to the left, then you would position your car to the right, and the car behind you to the left....etc. Drivers must maintain this staggered configuration until they hear their spotter informs them of "one lap to go until green". All lead lap cars line up single file to the outside.
  • While following the pace car, maintain a constant pace speed.
  • There is to be no scrubbing of tires or swerving under caution. Penalty: -25 race points
  • Causing an accident while under caution will result in stiff penalties. (See line 3 under Cautions/Self-spins)
  • Cars should move to no closer than 0.2 seconds behind the car in front prior to entry of the last corner before the green flag.
  • Brake checking while you are in the first position is not allowed. Penalty: -25 race points.
  • All drivers go on the green flag only. There will be no jumping the start. Jump starts will be determined by anyone in excess of 5 mph over the pace speed when the green flag drops, and they use that additional speed to gain positions. If you are too fast, but fall in line, no penalty will be assessed. Penalty: -25 race points.
  • There is also no lagging back on the starts/re-starts. Drivers must maintain no more than .5 seconds behind the driver in front of them. Penalty: -25 race points
  • If you are requested to pass before you cross the start/finish line, you should pass to the outside. If you pass to the inside, you will receive a black flag, in accordance with NR2003 Rules.
  • During the race (except the final 10 laps of the race), passes are not to be attempted prior to reaching the backstretch. This is to include passing attempts to the outside. The only exception will be if the car/truck in front of you is off pace for some reason. If, during a double file start/restart, your line is moving faster then the other, stay in-line and follow the car in front of you. You will be ruled as having made a passing attempt if any part of your car/truck is alongside the vehicle that you should be following. Penalty: -25 race points.

Server Resets
Under the Admins' discretion we permit only one reset, prior to the green flag. This is to allow anyone with last moment controller or connection issues one chance to get it working. Once the green flag waves the race is official! This rule applies in all series.
* Races will not be delayed for personal reasons.

Pitting

  • TIP: Turn on opponent pit crews during your practice and happy hour sessions to be sure you know where you need to enter/exit your stall.
  • Drivers that are pitting must use autochat to signal their intentions prior to entering the final turn before the entrance to pit road. Drivers will maintain the low line in the turn to give the race traffic, that is following, room to make a safe pass. Penalty: -25 race points per vehicle involved.
  • Driving through other drivers' pit stalls while entering/exiting your stall is not allowed. Do not drive through anyone's pit stall but your own. It is acceptable to maneuver your car through the pit stall immediately in front of and behind yours. Clearly if the driver pitting in front of or behind you is or will be in the vicinity, extreme caution must be exercised. This rule applies both during green flag racing and under caution. Penalty: -25 race points.
  • You must stay inside the yellow line after you have exited the pits. Your crew chief will inform you when it is okay to merge into traffic. Please note that when he says, “Merge when you can” doesn’t mean to dive directly into heavy traffic. Maintain the low line until you can safely merge with traffic that is at speed. Do not force drivers to take evasive action (braking and/or swerving) to avoid hitting you. Use your mirrors and F2 to help guide you in your attempt to merge safely. Drivers approaching those cars exiting pit road should expect to take a slightly higher than normal line. Once you're up to speed and can safely do so move into the high line to allow faster traffic the preferred line going into the next corner. Drivers causing an accident by not following this procedure will be penalized. Penalty: -25 race points per vehicle involved.
  • Fake pitting is allowed but if you fake pit and cause damage to another driver's vehicle you will be penalized! Penalty: -25 race points per vehicle involved
  • When pitting "under caution" all drivers need to stay single file and in the far right lane until they are in the position to enter their pit stalls safely. But if a driver is entering pit road and can not maintain pit road speed do to damage, motor issues, flat tire(s), etc. he must yield to the other drivers on pit road that are up to speed by staying in the low lane allowing the other drivers to pass on the outside safely. If you cause an accident on pit road for not following these procedures you will get penalized. Penalty: -25 race points per each other vehicle involved.
Cautions/Self-spins/Racing
  • All drivers must be able to drive each track safely and responsibly.
  • All drivers must personally drive their assigned vehicles. (No Substitute Driving)
  • Causing an accident while under caution will result in a penalty. Penalty: -35 race points per vehicle involved
  • All drivers agree that when the yellow flag comes out they will hold their position without passing until they cross the line taking the yellow. If you are in the midst of a passing attempt when the yellow flag is displayed, then try to finish the pass safely. If you haven't started your pass, then wait until the restart. Penalty: -25 race points for each vehicle illegally passed
  • Begin decelerating when positions are stabilized, by lifting off the gas.
  • When you take the yellow flag at the start/finish line, don't slow down suddenly. Ease off gradually until you approach the pace car and then decelerate smoothly down to pace speed.
  • It is acceptable to race back to the line if a yellow flag is displayed with 10 or fewer laps left in a race.
  • When the yellow flag is displayed, the leader has the option of allowing lapped cars/trucks to get their lap back if it is appropriate and can be done safely. If the leader chooses to allow lapped cars/trucks to pass, an autochat message should be sent by the leader to notify those following that he is slowing. The lead lap cars/trucks should then slow gradually, maintain their positions and take a high line in the turns to allow lapped cars/trucks room to pass. If the leader slows suddenly, without warning, to give laps back and this causes an accident behind him he will be penalized. Penalty: -25 race points per vehicle involved
  • Self-spins - defined as loosing control of your vehicle, normally because the tail end breaks loose. You need not spin a certain number of degrees to be guilty of this. For example, driver gets too loose in a corner where there is a wall that prevents him from going all the way around. If traffic behind him has no possibility of avoiding and a caution results from contact, it's a self-spin. You will not be charged a self-spin if you're trying to avoid an accident already in progress. You will however, if you're following another driver and misjudge your braking point to keep from hitting him.
  • A driver who self-spins and is either responsible for bringing out two caution flags or two instances of damage to another driver, must retire from the race. Drivers not adhering to this policy will be penalized, so if in doubt "get out". Penalty: (1st Offence) A loss of all points for that event. (2nd Offence) A loss of all points for that event and a one week single series, single race suspension. (3rd Offence)  A loss of all points for the event and a stronger suspension. See the suspension section, below, for further information.
  • Bump Drafting is allowed on restrictor plate tracks (Talladega & Daytona). However, if the car/truck that is doing the bumping causes an accident, he will be penalized. Penalty: -25 race points for EACH vehicle wrecked, up to a maximum of 100, or a final race point value of 0.
  • Going below the yellow line to pass at the restrictor plate tracks is illegal. If you go below the yellow line and gain a position, 1 lap will be deducted from your finishing position during the post race review and points will be adjusted accordingly.
  • Blocking or changing your line more than once in an obvious attempt to prevent a trailing car from safely executing a pass is not allowed except in the final 10 laps of a race. If you choose to block during the last 10 laps. Penalty: Could be anywhere from just a warning to a loss of all race points to even a suspension depending on the drivers history on this issue.
  • If you choose to block during the last 10 laps, then be prepared to accept the possible consequences.

Rules Violations and Penalties

  • Penalties will be used to support clean driving, and racing within the rules.
  • Penalties will be determined by what was witnessed during the race from replays, and from email explanations from those involved, if asked. All available information will be used to reach a fair decision.
  • If you feel your were treated unfairly by your series administrator, please contact the league commissioner. Arguing with league officials during a race will not be tolerated! Penalty: A loss of all race points for that event and/or a one week suspension. See the suspension section, below, for further information.

Lapped and Damaged Cars

  • Lapped and damaged cars are strongly encouraged to let cars on the lead lap pass. Lapped cars are defined as cars "not on the lead lap". The only exception is if lapped cars are racing for position. Drivers about to go a lap down, or are already one or more laps down, when five or fewer laps left in the race are required to yield to lead lap cars when they are fighting for position. Penalty: A loss of all race points for that event.
  • Drivers that become over (5) laps down in a race must retire. Penalty: A loss of all points for that event.
  • If your damage is enough to keep you from maintaining a reasonable speed on the track then you should consider retiring from the race. You must let other drivers know you are off pace before every re-start and before at speed cars get close to you. This can been in the form of "Pass High" "Pass Low" "Damaged/Off Pace" or an equivalent statement. If your actions, while significantly damaged or off pace, causes damage to another driver, you will lose all race points and be served a one-race league wide suspension.
  • If a late race caution should occur, and a restart is expected with 10 laps or less to go, all cars 1 lap down or more are expected to enter pit road and stay behind the lead lap cars on the restart. Lapped cars will not line up on the inside. This will allow all cars racing on the lead lap a chance to fight for the win.

Warp and Disconnects

  • During a race, if you notice you are warping (all the other cars disappear), or other drivers tell you that you are warping, you are expected to take appropriate action to ensure that you do not adversely affect other drivers. You should consider falling behind those cars immediately around you. If complaints continue about a warping driver and that driver does not take the appropriate action on his/her own, at the discretion of the series administrator, you may be asked to pit and wait for your connection to improve.
  • If you disconnect during a race, you may re-enter the race. If you are disconnected twice during a race or come back in a race after you are 5 or more laps down, you are required to eject yourself from the race. Penalty: A loss of all race points for that event.
  • In the event of a mass boot (more then 50% of the drivers) or server crash, the race will be thrown out, no points will be scored and the race will be rescheduled.
First Lap Wrecks or Cautions
First lap accidents are usually caused by impatience or inattention. If a driver causes a first lap wreck or caution they will be accessed an automatic 35 Point Deduction.

Provisionals
Simulated racing is not a full time job where we get paid and life has a nasty habit of pulling us away from time on the track. Provisionals are given to cover all of life's interruptions. Examples include, but are not limited to: Being called in to work, taking care of loved ones, taking an out-of-area vacation, having a computer/controller and or network related issue.
Automatic provisionals eliminate the need for drivers to request and administrators to have to review and approve the requests and make points modifications.
Provisional points higher then the automatic sixty may be given as follows. Only in the case of a driver that encounters an issue that prevents racing after said driver was present for Practice, Qualifying and Happy Hour sessions. If the driver is unable to complete a lap, to get credit for starting the race, a request can be made to the respective Series Admin. If the request is approved, the driver will be awarded last place points. If more than one driver during a given race is approved, they will be awarded points based on their qualifying position.

  • Provisional points are automatic and will count as 60 points.
  • Provisional points are not given to those drivers under suspension.

Qualifying
All drivers must enter the server on race days at least 15 minutes before qualifying. Practice session time remaining is used to determine late arrivals. Late drivers must take a provisional starting position and start at the back of the racing lineup. Administrators will monitor, but It is not the responsibility of the series administrators to tell you to take a provisional. Penalty: -50 race points

Road Courses
These rules apply to all road course events. Road courses are a challenge for most drivers since we don't get much practice racing while turning both left and right.

  • Caution flags will be turned off.
  • All road courses will start Single-file. Drivers will get in line in their starting positions (F2) during the pace lap before the green flag drops.
  • Drivers will line up no closer then .5 seconds behind the driver in front of them.
  • If you loose control of your vehicle two times that leads to damage to any other driver, you must retire. Penalty: A loss of all race points for that event.

Teams
A team is defined as two to five drivers that race here at MROL. Team Members, along with the team's name, will appear on the MROL Teams Page. We also have a Ventrilo server in which team rooms can be created upon request.

Suspensions
Any penalty is meant to be a deterrent to "negative" behavior. While under a suspension, drivers are not permitted to participate in an event. This includes scheduled practice, qualifying, happy hour and race sessions. Drivers are also not permitted to "watch" the race in-game. Suspension can take three forms:

  • Single series, single race
  • Multiple series, single race - the equivalent of a one-week suspension. Applies to the next race of all series here at MROL.
  • Multiple series, multiple races. This type is handled by calendar time.

Expulsion
You will be immediately expelled from the league if you are found guilty of any of the following infractions:

  • Intentionally wrecking another driver.
  • Entering races while you are on suspension.
  • Giving out a MROL password to a non-league member without approval.
  • Harassment of another driver. Via chat, email, or message board.
  • If you are asked to leave the race and do not leave immediately.
  • Substitute driving for another driver or having someone substitute for you.
General Sportsmanship
If a driver's conduct is not in keeping with the general good sportsmanship, atmosphere and level of professionalism that MROL is trying to maintain, and their actions are not otherwise covered in the above rules, Millennium Racing administration reserves the right to review such actions and penalize if deemed necessary. Penalties can be in the form of points, suspensions or expulsion.
